ABPCO makes extraordinary impact as it looks ahead to 2020

ABPCO worked with conference moderator and mentalist, David Meade to deliver an Extraordinary Impact at its 2019 AGM, which took place on 21 June.

During the event ABPCO members discussed and highlighted the association’s sustainability initiatives before taking part in a team building exercise that will have life changing consequences for individuals around the world.

ABPCO teams worked together to build 11 prosthetic hands for children and adult amputees in third world countries.  The process included writing messages of goodwill to the eventual recipients of each hand.

The activity was an interactive part of the ABPCO AGM designed to highlight just what can be achieved when groups of individuals and organisations gather to hold events.  The AGM also included a session delivered by Association Director, Heather Lishman that discussed ABPCO’s focus on working with members to create more sustainable association events.  This included details of ABPCO’s sustainability roadmap, ongoing outreach and communications and above all else its desire to make sustainability “the new normal”.

“This year’s AGM was a great success, but the session building the hands felt truly humbling,” commented ABPCO joint chair Kate Sargent.  “We are so incredibly lucky to be able to work in an exciting and challenging industry in one of the world’s most advanced countries.  Our lifestyles are incomparable to the challenges faced by the amputees discussed by David in his session.  That ABPCO was able to do something specific to help those individuals makes me proud to be a part of the organisation and I hope others will incorporate this or similar initiatives into their conferences.  Ultimately, this event was the perfect example of what ABPCO stands for – Proud to enable human enrichment through face to face gatherings.”
