BMA House marks 100 years and builds momentum for 2026 

A month into 2026, BMA House is reflecting on a busy centennial year in 2025, marking 100 years since the British Medical Association (BMA) officially made the building its home on 13 July 1925.

Originally designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911, the Grade II listed venue has evolved over the past century from its institutional roots into one of London’s leading settings for conferences, meetings and celebrations. With 22 flexible spaces, including a tranquil botanical Garden and majestic Courtyard, BMA House regularly hosts events for up to 320 guests and is located minutes from King’s Cross, Euston and St Pancras stations.

Throughout 2025, the venue’s centenary programme sat alongside continued progress in sustainable operations, with initiatives designed to help organisers reduce environmental impact without compromising on experience.

Hannah Robinson, Venue Manager at BMA House, said: “The centennial year gave us a brilliant opportunity to celebrate our heritage, while showing what BMA House stands for today. We are focused on events that feel welcoming, deliver real value for organisers, and reflect the responsibility we all share to operate more sustainably. That momentum is continuing into 2026.”

A centennial year shaped by sustainability and smarter planning

BMA House’s sustainability approach spans everything from waste and energy initiatives to food and travel choices, including zero to landfill practices, plant forward menus and support for active travel through clean air walking routes.

In 2025, the venue also continued to develop its catering model to simplify planning and reduce waste. Following the shift from bespoke to set menus across conferencing packages, BMA House reported that 93 percent of hot fork buffet packages were chosen as set options, helping improve consistency, reduce ingredient waste and keep pricing competitive.

This approach is supported by menu choices that prioritise sustainability, including removing red meat and sourcing 70 percent of ingredients from plant-based options.

Building on 2025, what’s coming in 2026

With strong momentum from the centenary year, BMA House is focusing on three priorities in 2026:

  1. Sustainable catering that keeps evolving– BMA House will continue developing seasonal set menus that balance creativity, value and waste reduction, building on the strong uptake seen across its conferencing packages.
  2. Delegate experiences that extend beyond the venue– Following the launch of its Local Area Guide in 2025, BMA House will keep supporting organisers to create well connected, experience rich itineraries in Bloomsbury and central London, particularly for international delegates.
  3. More tailored support for education sector events– BMA House has developed an Academic Day Delegate Rate designed around academic calendars and budgets, with an introductory saving of ten percent planned for Easter, half term and summer 2026. This builds on growing demand from universities, associations and training providers choosing the venue for teaching, research and professional development.

 

BMA House

BMA House is a Grade II-listed events venue in London’s elegant Bloomsbury district. Designed by notable English architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1911, it embodies British heritage with grand regency-era features inside and out.

The British Medical Association have been custodians of the building since 1925 and once upon a time, Charles Dickens called the site home. 

Boasting a spectacular Courtyard, botanical Garden and myriad, flexible meeting rooms, BMA House is a go-to venue for a range of events and special occasions, from corporate meetings and association conferences, to weddings and parties. It has also served as a location for several films and TV shows. 

As a venue, BMA House is renowned for its award-winning sustainable practices infused throughout its operations. Its overarching carbon descent plan comprises various eco-friendly initiatives including zero-waste policies, sustainable menus and carbon calculators to help clients reduce their environmental footprint.
