British Motor Museum’s evolving spaces help organisers combat venue fatigue

Changing Museum exhibitions create fresh delegate experiences while the venue’s trusted conference offer remains consistent

British Motor Museum Meetings & Events is helping organisers combat venue fatigue by combining dependable conference facilities and service with a changing programme of Museum exhibitions that creates something new for delegates each time they return.

For the Museum, every major new display or exhibition is effectively its version of a refurbishment. It transforms part of the venue, introduces new stories and experiences, and creates fresh opportunities for conferences, receptions and corporate events.

The latest example is Spoiler Alert: The Hot Hatch Story, which celebrates the hot hatch culture of the 1980s and 1990s through eight significant vehicles, interactive elements, classic video games, a retro soundtrack and a setting inspired by car meets and period motoring magazines.

For organisers, every new public exhibition effectively provides a fresh setting that can become part of the delegate journey. It might offer a creative space for networking, a destination for a drinks reception, material for a private tour or simply an unexpected experience between formal conference sessions.

It follows the opening of Forza Horizon 6: The Experience, which connects physical and digital car culture through vehicles, creative content and insights into how real-world cars and environments are recreated for one of the world’s best-known automotive gaming franchises.

Toby Batchelor, Head of Commerce at the British Motor Museum, said: “For the Museum, a major new exhibition changes how part of the building looks and feels, introduces new stories and gives people another reason to explore.

“The difference is that this evolution happens frequently. Organisers can return to conference spaces they already know work well, while giving delegates a wider experience that may have changed significantly since their previous visit.

“That balance is important. Our clients can trust the fundamentals: the same flexible meeting spaces, experienced team, practical delivery, catering and access. Around that dependable core, however, the Museum continues to evolve.”

The approach can help organisers combat venue fatigue, particularly when an organisation has found a location that works operationally and wants to return without making the delegate experience feel repetitive.

New displays can also introduce different themes into an event. Spoiler Alert: The Hot Hatch Story offers potential connections with youth culture, identity, community, consumer behaviour, product development and the democratisation of performance. Forza Horizon 6: The Experience explores the relationship between automotive engineering, gaming, digital design, creativity and technology.

Cat Boxall, Museum Curator, at the British Motor Museum, said: “Every exhibition allows us to look at automotive history from a different perspective. That might be through design, popular culture, technology, music, gaming or the relationship people have with particular vehicles.

“For event organisers, those changing perspectives create new opportunities. The exhibition can simply provide an enjoyable experience for delegates, or we can work with the organiser to connect its themes more directly with their programme and audience.”

Toby concluded: “Choosing a familiar venue should not mean delivering a familiar event. Our conference offer provides the consistency planners need, while the changing Museum gives them new content, settings and conversations to work with each time they return.”
